The "Krill yourself" catchphrase is an algospeak slang expression that combines the suggestion to kill oneself with the I'm One in a Krillion meme format. The earliest known of two krill shrimps staring intently captioned "Ermmmmm, krill yourself?" was posted on March 2023 on IFunny, borrowing the structure from the "Erm… What the deuce?" meme format. Krill puns saw a viral spread in late March and April 2023 with multiple reposts on IFunny and X, with users sharing reaction GIFs and images featuring it. For example, Redditor f1shb01 posted a meme in /r/okbuddyretard about the "krill yourself" phrase (shown below, left) and X user @DACLIUM posted an edited version of a man breaking chains meme (shown below, right).
