The Controversial 'Ice Spice Down Syndrome' Theory, Explained
Trendy New York City rapper Ice Spice has become famous over the past year, inspiring memes and TikTok trends en masse. Since her rise, many people have labeled her their "celebrity crush." In tow, a lot of other people disagree, taking their disagreement to new heights by spreading a controversial "Ice Spice Down syndrome" theory.
On Twitter, TikTok and in the comment sections of Spice's own Instagram posts, people are seeing her selfies and pushing the odd belief that she was born with Down syndrome. Although many of the memes about the theory are unserious, others seem to truly believe in it.
So, why exactly do internet users believe that Ice Spice has Down syndrome? Where did this controversial rumor start and who's spreading it? Let's explain.
Who Is Rapper Ice Spice?
For starters, Ice Spice came to prominence at the end of 2021, when a couple of her songs and WorldStarHipHop music videos went viral on Twitter, the most viral of which was her song "Munch" that spawned the famous catchphrase "You thought I was feelin' you?" and the now-notable slang term "munch."
Since her rise, specifically male influencers, TikTokers and streamers, like Kai Cenat, have made a habit of thirsting over her in their videos, centering on her viral "signature move." In turn, the "thirsting" has proven to be a content machine, allowing male creators to benefit from the Ice Spice hype train that's skyrocketed Spice into mainstream fame.
However, the antithesis of her hype is many haters existing, who have since spun the controversial "Down syndrome" theory.
Why Do People Think That Ice Spice Has Down Syndrome?
The "Ice Spice Down syndrome" theory seems to only be based on Ice Spice's facial features that some online think resemble a person with Down syndrome. The facial features that most of the theory's believers reference are Ice Spice's eyes and nose.
Who Started The 'Ice Spice Down Syndrome' Theory?
The theory seems to have started on Twitter in March of this year via a viral quote retweet that read, "she got down syndrome vibes." The tweet got thousands of likes and eventually spread the comparison to the comment sections of Ice Spice's Instagram posts. Thereafter, TikTokers took on the theory, making videos about it.
