Is The 'Low Taper Fade' Meme 'Still Massive?' The Joke About Ninja Dragging His Viral Moment Explained
According to streamer Ninja, the Low Taper Fade meme is still massive, even though it went viral way back in January.
Like, yeah, when everyone first heard, "Imagine if Ninja got a low taper fade," belted from the voice of an angel, it was the earworm that wouldn't stop worming. In fact, it was "massive" but, all these months later, the meme still exists because Ninja still thinks it's funny, hence why people are still seeing memes about it.
So, where did this "still massive" joke come from? What was the original video and why is TikTok still talking about it? Let's explain.
What's The 'Imagine If Ninja Got A Low Taper Fade' Meme?
Back in January, singer-songwriter ericdoa was livestreaming on Twitch. For two hours, he was freestyle singing, often about ridiculous, meme-related topics that sounded beautiful because of his vocal delivery. At one moment, he sang, "Imagine if Ninja got a low taper fade…"
The audio went viral on TikTok in the following weeks. People did imagine Ninja with a low taper fade, expressed through photoshops and AI imagery.
Ninja hopped onto the trend pretty quickly by actually getting a low taper fade haircut. For a solid week before that, the meme was still funny, according to internet users.
Why Is The 'Low Taper Fade' Meme 'Still Massive?'
By the end of January, the meme was pretty much dead. It had its run, but after Ninja acknowledged it, it all went downhill, like many memes before it. However, Ninja didn't realize this and, to him, believed that the trend was still popular.
During one of his livestreams, Ninja said, "You know what’s crazy? Is that that low taper fade meme… is still massive."
From then on, the joke shifted to making fun of Ninja for being so out of the loop. Some memes imagined him millions of years in the future, as a cyborg, still believing that his 2024 meme was still the face of the internet.
And now that the year is wrapping up, people are bringing back the clip amid "Meme of the Year" discourse.
What Else Has Ninja Been Cringe About?
Tyler Blevins, aka Ninja, is beloved and undoubtedly one of the more impactful streamers of his generation. However, he is no stranger to cringe moments.
Like, back in 2017, he raged at a little kid during an H1Z1 match. A year later, he failed at "flossing" during a New Year's celebration. In 2021, he tweeted about his "bra-less wife" bringing him a sandwich.
While these moments might hurt someone's career, for Ninja, they seem to have only helped. He's mistakenly branded himself as a buffoon, but his buffoonery has somehow made him more endearing. Or maybe, it's only made him more evergreen.
