Some edgy meme creators have started a campaign to replace LGBTQ+ Pride Month with Dinosaur Month for all of June. As June 1st is right around the corner, will the internet be seeing a flood of dinosaur memes?

On iFunny, it's safe to say that dinosaur memes are going to make a meteoric impact once the new month begins. The concept is slowly spreading elsewhere, being adopted by prehistoric lovers and anti-LGBTQ+ proponents alike.

Let's explain this trending meme, where it came from and what makes it problematic, but overall, also kind of funny.

Where Did 'Dinosaur Month' Memes Come From?

To start, June 1st has actually been national Dinosaur Day in the United States for a little while. Plus, the anniversary of Jurassic Park lands on June 11th. The latter has directly inspired June to be called "Jurassic June" in the past.

With this history in mind, Dinosaur Month memes were predominantly started on the meme-sharing app iFunny starting in June 2022. Aside from one meme that started the concept during that month, the Dinosaur Month discourse didn't surface en masse until a year later in May 2023.

On iFunny's "Featured" page for the past week or so, Dinosaur Month has been trending like crazy, mostly inspired by one comment left on a White Boy Summer meme last week.

Are 'Dinosaur Month' Memes Problematic?

Inherently, the push to replace Pride Month with Dinosaur Month is a little homophobic and transphobic. In recent years, iFunny has been a hotbed of controversial users and memes. Therefore, Dinosaur Month's iFunny origin is not entirely shocking.

With all of the recent events and controversies that aim to belittle trans people (such as the backlash surrounding Bud Light's Dylan Mulvaney partnership or the Target Pride Month Protests) so-called anti-woke reactionaries are quick to use Dinosaur Month to dunk on companies when Pride Month ends.

With all this considered, the ironic nature of Dinosaur Month's concept warrants some respect in the general meme sphere. Dinosaurs are objectively awesome and worthy of appreciation.
