2024 Halloween Meme Costumes Guide
Halloween 2024 is just far enough away that you still have plenty of time to pick an awesome Halloween costume. This year, maybe you're thinking, "What meme could I dress up as?"
Really wow your friends and family this October who (hopefully) scrolled into the same internet wormholes as you. Maybe it's your group chat's favorite inside joke or your crush's recurring character on their FYP.
No matter, prove how dangerously online you are with these 10 Halloween "meme costumes" from some of the best and biggest internet trends of 2024. If you're lucky, you won't have to show a picture to everyone you meet on Halloween night.
Hawk Tuah Girl
C’mon, you know she had to be number one. This is what everyone’s looking for, right?
The Hawk Tuah Girl, who might be the most prominent and viral sensation of the year, blew up when she was drunkenly interviewed on the streets of Nashville back in June. No one knew her real name, Haliey Welch, at the time. They only knew what she told the cameraman, saying, with a Southern accent, that the best thing to do in bed is to "Hawk tuah and spit on that thang!"
Since then, she's started her own podcast and become the subject of an onslaught of ironic memes, playing on the so-called "Zynternet's" obsession with her. To shock your frat boy friends, wow your sorority sisters or pull up to the function in the most irony-poisoned costume, why not dress as the Hawk Tuah Girl this year?
Required Items:
1) Cowboy hat
2) Blonde wig
3) Black tank top or blouse
4) Gold hoop earrings
5) Black sunglasses
Alternatively…
1) This Hawk Tuah Halloween costume from Spirit Halloween.
The Costco Guys
There have been many viral influencers this year but there has only been one "influencer family" worth mentioning. A.J. and Big Justice is the father-son duo in question who popped off when their wholesome We're Costco Guys video went platninum. The Italian-American Florida family has since brought the BOOM! everywhere they go with a chicken bake and a double-chunk chocolate cookie in hand.
Of course, we can't forget The Rizzler, who's the group's trusty sidekick, although many Rizzler diehards would argue that he's the main character. Across many viral videos, the Rizzler and the Befumos have soaked in their entire 15 minutes of fame, which is seemingly endless at this point.
The trio would undeniably make a great group costume if you've got multiple people (just make sure the friend who can mew is the Rizzler. They'll need to make a Chad Face almost the entire night).
Required Items:
Big Justice
1) Black and green Under Armor shirt
2) Fake braces
3) Costco chicken bake
A.J.
1) Grey V-neck T-shirt
2) Black baseball cap
3) Costco double chunk chocolate cookie
The Rizzler
1) Black Panther costume
Moo Deng
Moo Deng, the beloved baby hippo, has easily been the most viral animal of the year. The little girl is only a few months old and lives in Thailand at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo. Photos and videos of her antics went viral on social media, highlighting her expressive face and fast-paced lifestyle.
To pull off the best Moo Deng costume this year, you might need someone to hose you down at various points throughout the night to maintain her signature glisten. A Moo Deng costume is rather simple, however, probably no one is going to top SNL cast member Bowen Yang's homage.
Required Items:
1) Hippo onesie
2) Portable water hose
Wizard Gnome
Some might have forgotten that a little mischievous Wizard Gnome was the king of the internet for a month. He was also the king of the mall he frequented, seen squatting down, scurrying into random stores, restaurants and other businesses.
A Russian TikToker named @crawly_possessed (aka Crawly) was the character's creator. He also created the Crawling In Public trend, which was visually similar and similarly viral.
This costume's pretty straightforward as its original version is already a crudely pieced-together getup. Just remember to squat the whole time and maybe get a friend to dress as a knight. Then, you can really fulfill the Gnomes vs. Knights prophecy.
Required Items:
1) Hooded green cloak
2) White facial hair
3) White gnome cap
4) Pink butterfly net
Cerveza Cristal
Looking for a costume that will probably earn you a free beer? Look no further than Cerveza Cristal, the most viral beverage of 2024 and one of the year's biggest meme trends.
The Chilean lager made waves this year when internet users discovered that a local Chile TV network spliced Cerveza Cristal ads into airings of Star Wars, producing hilarious cut scenes, showing the Rebel Alliance enjoying a cold one (or two).
Required Items:
Alternatively
1) Any Star Wars costume
2) and just hold a Cerveza Cristal bottle
Brazilian Miku
Cosplay "con" culture and normal Brazilian culture unite in the Brazilian Miku meme from this year. The meme begs a simple question, "What if Hatsune Miku was from Rio de Janeiro?"
This art trend blew up on Twitter / X about a month ago, spawning a trend of drawing Miku as every nationality representing every country. The trend devolved so much that people started drawing anything as Miku. Inanimate objects and concepts were given blue pigtails and a hand to hold up a peace sign.
Required Items:
1) Brazil T-shirt
2) Denim cut-off shorts
3) Hatsune Miku wig
4) Blue flip flops
TikTok Rizz Party Boys
Ah … who could forget the TikTok Rizz Party boys who went all out at a sweet 16 when the Kanye and Playboi Carti song "Carnival" came on. They couldn't resist spazzing out in front of the camera and, after their performance went viral on TikTok, people couldn't resist powerscaling their friend group.
Of course, there was the Group Leader (aka the Blue Tie Kid). Secondly, there was Turkish Quandale Dingle, whose nickname was insanely less flattering. Other honorable mentions include Tomato Boy. For you and your friends to pull off this group costume, you'll all need to get Zoomer Perms (sorry).
Required Items:
1) Striped blue tie
2) Black dress shirt
3) Black dress pants
4) Fake sweat
2024 Olympic Shooters
The 2024 Summer Olympics were undeniably meme-heavy this time around. Many of the athletes like the Pommel Horse Guy and Raygun earned viral meme attention. However, the 2024 Olympic Shooters are probably the most recognizable to dress as (unless you can find where to get Raygun's outfit and learn to dance like a kangaroo).
Who could forget Kim Yeji, the South Korean shooter, whose cold, cool and confident look stunned internet users. Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç was arguably more viral. The older competitor looked like a mob hitman who gave up his life of crime to pursue a gold medal instead. He's notably seen with no special "shooting glasses." Although they look sick on Kim Yeji, Dikeç might look sicker without them.
Required Items:
Kim Yeji
1) Small round frame glasses
2) Shooting glasses patch
3) Black tracksuit
4) White baseball cap
5) Fake silver pistol
6) Elephant keychain
Yusuf Dikeç
1) Clear lens square black frame glasses
2) Türkiye shirt
3) Fake pistol
My New Character
Maybe the chillest guy you can dress up as this year is My New Character. No, it's not my character. It's the brainchild of artist @PhillipBankss who (in a stroke of genius) drew this new character into existence.
There's something about his smile, stance and vibe that resonated with TikTok and Twitter / X about a month ago. He even earned his own inspirational theme song, stripped from the Dexter quote, "They make it look so easy." He even has an enemy, known as My Old Character. If you and your enemy are looking for a couple's costume feel free to use this idea.
Required Items:
1) Brown ears
2) Grey crewneck sweater
3) Blue jeans (and don't forget to cuff them!)
4) Red Converse style shoes
Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience
Looking back on this year in memes, the Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience is almost undoubtedly the top choice for the event of the year. For those uninformed, back in February, a Willy Wonka event was advertised in Scotland but when patrons showed up, they were met with half-baked decorations and characters in a practically empty warehouse. Plus, some local actors were paid for the event and (in their own unique ways) added to the chaos of the experience.
First, there was the Oompa-Loompa Bartender who looked absolutely done with her life. Her solemn, contemplative expression in front of a table of gizmos and widgets inspired fan art, memes and homages across social media.
Secondly, The Unknown also stole the spotlight. You may be asking, "Did Roald Dahl include a creepy shadow figure called The Unknown in the original book?" The answer is, no, but the creators of this weird event obviously took some creative liberties.
Required Items:
Oompa-Loompa Bartender
1) Oompa Loompa costume
2) Novelty labware
The Unknown
1) Silver mask
2) Black tunic
3) Black wig
4) Rectangular mirror
