What Is The Third Biggest Event Of Our Lives?
Author and columnist for the Washington Examiner, Tim Carney (@TPCarney), fired off a tweet yesterday that had everyone discussing all of the historical moments they've witnessed in their lifetimes. After listing 9/11 and the current global pandemic as the two biggest events he's ever witnessed, Carney asked others Twitter users what they thought the third biggest event has been.
While tragedies and elections received a lot of attention in the replies, it was the humorous answers offered up by users that made the thread entertaining to read. Due to the popularity of Carney's tweet, many of the historical moments began to takeover as trending topics, which led to more people participating in the thread, after curiosity led users to find out why past events were being talked about.
A lot of people were quick to argue that the Great Recession probably deserved the title.
And yet, how could we forget about O.J. Simpson?
Of course, we couldn't forget the war that lasted for almost a decade.
The presidential elections truly brought all of the drama.
A long list of tragedies, seared into American minds, also flooded the replies.
How could one anyone forget David Hasselhoff's performance?
Many users were happy to offer up other pop culture moments that they felt deserved the recognition.

Is this suit in a museum yet?
Probably the day Obama wore the tan suit. Or the Great Recession. It’s a toss up.

One thing is for sure, it's been a rough couple of years and we hope we can flatten that curve for the next 20.
A lot has happened in the last 20 years. Much of it pretty awful.

Surprised the continuing Boom of internet culture isn’t mentioned in the article; Message boards, chat rooms, MEMEs, instant messaging, file sharing, music downloading, web speech, THE PORN, social media, streaming, bootlegging, search engines, emoticons, e-mailing, cyber shopping, Gaming, education, artwork and web sites upon websites of whatever subject matter that ever was and will be.

Honestly, it's hard to top the lightning-quick implosion of the American economy which just took place. People haven't noticed yet in no small part because the media is deliberately ignoring it, but the march layoffs broke all historical records when you consider the timespan -- it took about 3 years after the 1929 crash for unemployment to get as high as it is right now, and might surpass the absolute record by the end of june. This has the potential to be far bigger than 9/11, tho it's impossible to predict.
