Sorry Baby Yoda, but Greta Thunberg was named TIME's Person of the Year this morning, and Twitter had quite a lot to say about it. At just 16-years-old, Thunberg becomes the youngest person ever awarded this recognition, and while many applauded the magazine for choosing the environmental activist, some couldn't help but wonder why more prominent people weren't chosen instead. What appears to add fuel to that fire is that following the announcement, TIME released the results of their 2019 Person of the Year reader poll where Thunberg placed fifth.

Despite 30% of the 27 million voters sending the Hong Kong protestors to first place, it was TIME's editors who ultimately determined who the Person of the Year was. It also feels important to mention that Keanu Reeves placed third with 4.5% of the vote.

Soon, the praise for TIME's selection came in quickly.

Some even reflected on how the 16-year-old inspired them.

Several were happy to step in to defend the 16-year-old.

And had fun photoshopping her victory.

Confused users who were clearly expecting someone else, began to tweet out their thoughts.

It appeared that the Hong Kong protestors were the assumed favorite for this recognition.

Several even jumped in to photoshop their own TIME magazine covers.

But mostly confusion remained with TIME's choice.

And of course downright disdain resulted as well.

Some users wondered why anyone really cared that much anyway.

Regardless, learning this fact alone today, was enough to set the week right.

My favorite thing about this is how much it triggers president* 4chan and his cultists. Delicious concervitard tears.

Who is more deserving of recognition this year?:
1) An autistic child who skips school to yell at people
2) A group of protesters risking life and limb to protect their freedoms

Wish I could get a award for doing absolutely nothing, skipping school, and having a bigger carbon foot print with all the flying than a normal person I shame.

I figured if the Time editors were smart, they would pick the Hong Kong protestors and if they were dumb, they would pick something like The Squad or House Democrats. As it turns out, I underestimated just how dumb they could get.

Fucks sake, the Hong Kong protesters were robbed.

No disrespect to Greta, but I'd like to remind everyone that both Stalin and Hitler were Time's Man of the Year back to back.
I definitely think the Hong Kongers should have won this, but you shouldn't take this award too seriously.

It's not about morality, it's influence. And internal company politics, I'd wager.

All that this shows you is that Time sold out. Greta Thunberg hasn't done anything or persuaded anyone of anything they did not already believe. She is a PR agent for a PR company that did all of the publicity and organizational work.

Looking forward to Greta beginning her great conquest, followed by a horrid and unprovoked genocide of poor innocent rich people.
