Last night Louisana State University and Clemson University may have played each other in a college football championship game, but more eyes were focused on a handshake that took place in the audience. In a 30-second clip posted by former Deadspin and Daily Beast contributor Timothy Burke, actor Vince Vaughn is seen sitting next to First Lady Melania Trump and President Trump and engaging in conversation. Before the clip ends, Vaughn shakes Trump's hand, and the minute the clip was posted to Twitter, it was all anyone could really talk about and soon the actor's name was trending.

And so began the debate of whether or not the actor should be cancelled.

One user referred to the incident shared between Ellen DeGeneres and former President George W. Bush.

Others were eager to include Vaughn's name alongside many of the other vocal Trump supporters.

Many reflected on how disappointed they were in Vaughn, especially since they've enjoyed his acting work.

One user joked how current presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren might use this scenario to increase her poll numbers.

While many pointed out that they already knew Vaughn had ties to the Republican Party, they still were upset.

Some felt the actor shaking the President's hand meant he agreed with everything Trump has done.

Others weren't even surprised.

A chorus of people supporting Vaughn was also present on Twitter.

The actor's history of support for conservative candidates was brought up many times.

One user brought up how the actor had even supported Rand Paul in the 2016 election.

Some joked how they were praying for those upset by the handshake.

One user requested that we all return to the days of not caring about Vince Vaughn.

And how the whole incident is something neither parties should actually care about.

Louisana State University wound up winning the game 42-25.

And people say Trump derangement syndrome isn't real. Even if I don't like someone I'll still shake their hand. At cons I've helped my pall work at, I've shook hands with plenty of people including guests I'm not fond of. Shaking someones hand is just a greeting and a sign of basic human respect. PS before anyone jumps the gun, I'm not a big fan of Trump, he's just another big cheese in charge at the moment.

Everyone here hates Twitter now, I'm happy. Partly because I hate the format of that site so much I'll never use it, even if there is good content there.

Acknowledging T****'s existence is now an offense punishable by hanging at the neck until half dead, genital mutilation, and quartering.

I'd say I can't wait for his presidency to end so that this shit will stop, but just because he's gone won't mean that people will stop thinking garbage like this is fine.

So… this is who we are now? End people's careers not because they necessarily endorse somebody, but because they refuse to be uncivil in their presence? Leftist twitter needs to get a life before they run out of people to cancel.

Nearly all the tweets are from people on the right preemptively mocking outrage before there even was any. Fox hilariously headlined a tweet from a conservative pundit who was JOKING about it all. Truly the dumbest timeline.

Two men talk and shake hands at a football game. That's it, that's the issue at hand for these people.
