Twitter Attempts To Cancel Jeff Goldblum
Ah yes, cancel culture strikes again. In a recent interview with the British newspaper iNEWS, the enigmatic and beloved Jeff Goldblum discussed his relationship with Woody Allen while promoting his new jazz album I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This.
Goldblum, who had a minor role in Annie Hall told the interviewer that it was Woody Allen who inspired him to pursue his love of music after working with him on the film, and performing with the director's jazz band. When asked if Goldblum would consider working with Allen again even though the director's own daughter accused him of sexual misconduct, the actor stated that ,"even though I feel like this cultural shift [the #MeToo movement] is very, very positive and long overdue and I support it wholeheartedly and take it very seriously, I also admire his body of work. So I would consider working with him again, until I learned something more (negative)."
After this interview hit Twitter, a debate about whether or not Jeff Goldblum should be cancelled by association, became a hot topic, and soon the actor's name began to trend.
First came his demotion from the Hollywood Holy Trinity.
And the mourning soon followed.
Many were shocked that his name would ever be associated with cancel culture.
New nicknames were even given to the actor.
Several users pointed out that negative stories regarding Woody Allen preceded the #MeToo movement.
The crushes were killed.
The disappointment was deafening.

jeff goldblum defending woody allen is like your really cool uncle saying something racist around you for the first time. you expected better of him bc you liked him, but in the end you're not really all that surprised

Of course, many reactions rolled in judging all of the users attempting to cancel the actor.
it’s embarrassing that anyone thinks they even have the ability to ‘cancel’ Jeff Goldblum. All he’s done is voiced, rather sensibly, that he supports #MeToo but also believes in innocent until proven guilty which literally everyone on this planet should

There was mostly relief that the actor was still alive, despite his name trending, which ususally causes alarm.
When you see #JeffGoldblum trending…But it’s ok. pic.twitter.com/VIRWxPn12z

Sexual predators, not coolDefending said predators, not coolTrying to cancel Jeff Goldblum for stating Woody Allen’s constitutional rights of being presumed innocent until proven guilty, also not very cool

So people are wanting to cancel Jeff Goldblum for defending Woody Allen which all he said was that he was innocent until proven guilty which that's what any rational person would say. Seriously #fuckcancelculture

Some were just plain fed up with this newfound art of cancelling.
Imagine trying to cancel people (Jeff Goldblum) with twitter. You people are honestly pathetic and live pretty cushioned lives if this is the shit you spend your time doing. You aint "cancelling" shit except making cancel culture even more of a joke.

And others found it hypocritcal that Whoopi Goldberg and Meryl Streep had not been cancelled yet.
If you are #cancelling Jeff Goldblum for THAT, you need to stay consistent and cancel everyone who talked nice about Roman Polanski too, including but not limited to Q Tarantino, Whoopi and Meryl Streep #notraperape #jeffgoldblum

As this debate carries on, we remain extremely anxious about who might be next.

Boy if people are considering Tom Hanks part of the "Holy Trinity" then they better not see the video of him that was filmed at a charity event doing a skit where a guy in full blackface got on stage with him, the guilt by association alone would cause him to be the next cancelled star going by the logic of Twitter.

These guys don't believe in second chances

So now Twitter admit their cancel culture is just petty high school drama.

From what I have read (and I may be wrong, I acknowledge), the accusation is that Woody Allen molested his daughter in a house absolutely crammed with other people, at a time and place where he would have had to be the world's fastest pedophile.
Him marrying Soon Yee is icky, fine. But the molestation accusations, to me, seem more likely the product of a hateful spouse and parental alienation.

It's alarming that many people instantly considered him 'cancelled' for a statement not 100% in support of issue x. This hastiness kills any potential for dialogue.
Concerned Troll
I thought he was already cancelled because of unspecified sexual misconduct alleged by the blue checkmark who thinks Jesse Singal is stalking her?
King Crimson
Seriously? That's it? That's all he said?

Firstly, any of these people that think they can find a celebrity that DOESN'T work in some capacity with a fucked up sex abuser (Allen or otherwise) will have their work cut out for them.
Second, this is reaching into McCarthy levels of blacklisting when people can be "cancelled" for having associations with other "cancelled" people.
CuFlam
McCarthyism doesn't get the attention it deserves in K-12 education. It's a great lesson in malign manipulation of mob mentality that's especially relevant in this age of echo chambers and media manipulation.

Twitter is angry over a comment, news at eleven.
The news at eleven: everyone got over that twitter thing.

This is just overblown.
