The final trailer for Joker arrived today before its October 4th release, and it actually seems like people are finding the new dark and twisted take on the character refreshing. Originally met with mixed reactions after it was announced that Joaquin Phoenix would be starring as the Batman super-villain in yet another movie, it was quite a surprise to see the upcoming film met with genuine interest, instead of disdain on Twitter this afternoon.

I think this works best because it's basically the opposite of the coin to Heath Ledger's Joker. Dark Knight's take focused a lot more on the "chaos" aspect of being a clown, whereas this focuses more on the "laughter" side of things. Both see the humour in doing what they want, but Heath just did it because he wanted to, Joaquin does it to be known regardless of the outcome.

Couple that with an actually set look into this Joker's backstory (a rarity even in these days) and we have a Joker that has the same energy is the Dark Knight portrayal but in starkly different colours. And that's a good thing.
