No One Could Believe That MTV's Kurt Loder Turned 75 Yesterday
If you were a child or a teenager in the 90s, it's pretty safe to say that you remember Kurt Loder from MTV. Loder joined MTV News way back in 1987, and was one of the first people to alert the nation to Kurt Cobain's death on national television. Yesterday happened to be Loder's birthday, and when Twitter user @CassAnderson pointed out that it was his milestone 75th year on planet Earth, many couldn't help but react with shock.
It appears Loder never actually looked his age on television. He was 42 when he joined MTV, and was well into his early 50's when he delivered the news on Biggie's death. As Twitter sent his name to trend, many were surprised to find out that a person they deemed cool their entire childhood, was in fact older than their parents the whole time. And while the internet tried to recover from the discovery of Loder's Boomer status, many were happy to celebrate him by sharing their favorite memories of his time on television.
Billy Idol was happy to tweet out his birthday wishes.

It should be said that this still doesn't make our parents cool.
Wait, he is older than MY PARENTS? I remember when I looked to him for legit music news. 🤣

Kurt Loder was 53 when he announced Biggie died. 53 on MTV. Now anybody over 32 is considered old and out of touch.

Kurt Loder popping up while watching MTV back in the day was kinda like being in the middle of a party and the cool adult passing out water so y’all don’t pass out and to tell you Tupac died, but it’s gonna be okay

He is our generation's anchorman.
Kurt Loder was up there with Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, and Peter Jennings when I think of who I trusted to give me the news. When Kurt Cobain of Nirvana committed suicide, Loder was so professional… I'll never forget watching MTV that day. You knew it was serious if Loder was on. https://t.co/AXf0XP980I
