Modders Find Webms In Half-Life: Alyx Files, Put Memes Into The Game
It turned out that the video call from Eli Vance that you receive at the start of Half-Life: Alyx is just a WebM file in the game folder – and you can replace with any footage without much technical knowledge. Obviously, people rushed to put memes and YouTube classics into the game.
The groundbreaking discovery was allegedly made by Twitter user @AverageJoeSFM who on March 25 showed the world how much better Big Bill Hell's classic ad fits into the game than the boring old introduction from papa Vance.
So it turns out that some of the monitor footage inside of #HalfLifeAlyx are just webms inside a folder, AKA you can change it to whatever you want. Already contributed my part pic.twitter.com/9pJxD9gP2j

Forcing the game to play the vid of your choice turned out to be surprisingly easy: open the SteamApps/Common/Half-Life Alyx/Game/HLVR/Panorama/Videos folder and replace the intro_world_heist.webm with a dank meme of your choice.
It didn't take long for the folks on Twitter and Reddit to join in on the fun:

With this, Half-Life: Alyx scores yet another mini-meme for itself – and it looks like the limited playerbase is not affecting the game's meme potential in the slightest.

I have a ton of webm's saved from 4chan(nel), but I'm not buying a VR set.
