Today, the Trump Administration announced that it was considering a ban on flavored e-cigarettes following the sixth vaping-related death to happen in the United States this week. Trump announced in a video that it was actually First Lady, Melania Trump, who brought the issue of underage vaping to his attention.

Following this news report, many on Twitter responded with incredulity, since the President has yet to ban the selling of assault rifles following countless mass shootings in the United States.

These politically illiterate Twitterers, including the one tweeting from the White House, are so preoccupied with whether or not they should, they don’t stop to think if they could.

Neither a firearm nor a nicotine ban are legal options in America, there are rules against both that would take political upheaval unprecedented since the 19th century to change.

Prohibition of alcohol wasn't an option until it actually was one.

Yeah, but look how it turned up.

Because it wasn’t enforced, not to mention we have more technology now

People who want to either of these things to be banned:

You would think these people would understand that both government banning of vaping and guns are massive overreaches of government power.

Kenetic Kups

Niether are, a government is perfectly within it’s rights to ban weapons, and narcotics

-3

Lol sure.
Nevermind that the opioid crisis is still ongoing, there’s poison in the water system, micro plastics in food, and even more poison in pesticides. But yes guns and vaping juice are the real problems in America.

Kenetic Kups

You do realize this isn’t a video game, and we can do multiple things at once
opiods should be banned outside of hospitals, all plumbing should be certified safe, and we need to cut down on microplastics, thiough i don’t know how

Every time I hear the words "Assault weapon" I die a little inside.

pilongadello

anything is an assault weapon is you use it right. an AR-15, an AK-47, a pole lamp, a power stapler, a brick, dry ice in a mason jar, a bottle of bleach, gravel, your hands, a piece of pipe, a pressure cooker-

I am AHO Right?

Everything can be an assault weapon, but not every assault weapon can be a daily utensil.

Are these idiots really going to ignore the mental health aspect of the mass shooting epidemic yet again? Banning assault weapons isn't going to do shit, the people who are committing crimes are probably willing to commit another crime to get the weapon they want. Also, assault weapons are just any semi-automatic firearm that can take a magazine in addition to any of the following features
>Telescoping or folding stock
>Bayonet lug
>Barrel shoud
>Threaded barrel
>Pistol grip
Notice how NONE of these actually increase the legality of the firearm, even the bayonet lug doesn't since nobody uses bayonets nowadays. All an assault weapons ban would do is ban features that have nothing to do with the effectiveness of a firearm

Ah good old free market job creating anti government regulation Republic president wants to ban an industry and tell you what you can and can't put into your own body

Oh look, everyone complaining is a vaping millennial, no surprise here.
Also, the reason for his ban is that values are a metric fuck ton more accessible and useable by underage people than guns. This is the 6th death, and it sure as hell ain't gonna be the last.
maybe you should, oh, I dunno, check yourself before complaining? All you're doing is helping Big Tobacco, they don't give a Damn about your health, and already own Juul's ass, you think they'll let smoking die? I don't think so.

Your Uncle Yonkers

Adults deciding what they can and can't put into their own bodies?
The loss of an entire industry and thousands of jobs?
Banning an addictive drug and opening up a black market for crime?

Nah fuck all that THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

I don't vape but still think this is stupid considering that there are substances out there that cause even more harm (cigarettes and alcohol) yet they aren't calling for a ban on them.

I-I actually think this confirms (to me at least) that Trump is a shill and that lobbyist have influence that reaches all the way to the oval office. This is the only way this shit makes sense to me I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT ONE OF THE TOP CONCERNS FOR HEALTH FOR THIS ADMINISTRATION IS VAPES CAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT ARE A LOT MORE HARMFUL AND MORE READILY AVAILABLE THAN FUCKING VAPES I DO NOT WANT TO BELIEVE THIS CAN GET MORE STUPID PLEASE SOMEONE SEND ME TO THE END OF 2020 I DON'T WANT TO LIVE THROUGH THIS STUPIDITY ANYMORE

A good chunk of the U.S. is rural farmland, which needs guns to keep wild animals from going after crops, while tobacco products are a harmful, addictive luxury which vapes and e-cigs are a part of that have little to no regulation and kids can get a hold of easily.

All that is fair but I want to clear up my opinions a bit. First, I don't think we need more gun control, I believe the amount we have right now is fine and we should focus more on providing people with more chances to help their mental health. Second, tobacco is harmful and would honestly prefer if humanity as a whole would stop smoking and a complete ban on it would be my ideal outcome, but that outcome would also involve the banning of other incredibly harmful recreational substances such as alcohol which probably will never happen. Third, while it is true that regulation with e-cigs is pretty wonky and kids can get them easily, this is calling for an all out ban on them, not increasing regulation and laws to make it harder for kids to get and to decrease the overall harmfulness of them. For them to come out and say they are planning on banning them sounds to me more like a move that the cigarette companies would want since it would eliminate a substitute good off of the market.
