This week, a rumor went viral that President Trump had asked his advisors if the United States could acquire Greenland, which is currently owned by Denmark. As several members of his administration supposedly began looking into the possibility of the purchase, many online began to mock the scenario with countless tweets and memes. Below are some of our favorites.

Yes because I am sure Denmark is willing to sell an entire state and it's population of 50 thousand people.

Russia did it with Alaska, while France did it with Louisiana

But that was a long time ago when these areas were basically no-mans-land already.

Even the Greenlanders don't want it, because even if they were to pay every Greenlander $1 million in cash:
That money doesn't last forever, and they would give up universal healthcare and quality public schooling system for a cash payout.

These systems is very much part of Nordic identity and you don't just sell that for money. You get a lot of money right now in exchange for a long term decreased quality of life. And sometimes, just sometimes, people actually think about how their decisions will affect their children and grandchildren.

Only if Greenland and Denmark agrees, and I don't see that happening.
I think it is more likely Scotland decides to become part of Scandinavia

Greenland has no real autonomy, its only an autonomy granted by the good graces of Denmark. Denmark is a little country that will submit to the world's military superpower if pushed. The playing field here is not equal.

…let me get this right.

You think that Denmark, a country that as far as I am aware, America has absolutely no prior problem with whatsoever, is at risk of being threatened with military action if they refuse to hand over 50,000 of it's citizens in order to satisfy one of the Annoying Orange's demands?

Somehow, I doubt it's going to come to that.
