A Look at the Differences Between Cersei & Daenerys's Battle Strengths
Throughout Season 8 of Game of Thrones, we've watched as plots thickened and unfolded, yet as we enter what Daenerys calls "The Last War" between herself and Cersei Lannister for the Iron Throne, it is unclear just what each opponent is bringing with them to the battlefield. Season 8 Spoilers
Cersei Lannister
From: Casterly Rock
Personality Traits: Ambitious, Wicked, Snake, Heartless, Cunning, Does love her children, DOES NOT PLAY BY THE RULES
The Golden Company
In season 7, it is shown that Cersei had plans to buy a force fit for well, a Queen. She was talking about the Golden Company. The Golden Company is said to have never broken a contract. Ironically this is mentioned often throughout the season, in just the same manner as "how safe the crypts are in Winterfell". Non the less, the Golden Company stand with Cersei with a force of 20,000 sellswords and mercenaries from Essos commanded by a Harry Strickland. (Unfortunentally, no elephants)
Euron Greyjoy
Behind Cersei (Literally) is Euron Greyjoy who "commands" the Iron Fleet. There isn't an exact number on the size of the fleet, however, it is expected to be a rather large sum after last weeks episode gave a small 'taste' of power. In case it was forgotten, Euron is a 'pirate' that was exiled from the Iron Islands. He returned in season 6 to Westeros and drove out his niece and nephew (Yara and Theon Greyjoy) to take over the Islands.
Qyburn (Cersei's Loyal Hand)
We've seen Qyburn throughout the seasons but here is a short recap. Qyburn was once a former master but was expelled from the citadel for conducting "experiments" on humans. he is responsible for one of Cersei's terrifying pawns, yes indeed…The Mountain (Also brother of The Hound) He also helped heal Jamie Lannister's hand when it was cut off.
Interesting Fact: *Robb Stark decided to spare Qyburns life at Harrenhal…Tisk Tisk Robb
Lannister Bannermen
Also known as "The Gold Cloaks", these soldiers have been through dragon fire… actually. Yet, they will most likely if not entirely remain loyal to a Lannister.
The Iron Bank (Not actual fighting but deals with the money)
Just like a real bank, the Iron Bank puts its money where they see a profit. Without them, Cersei would not have been able to afford the Golden Company. However, it is important to remember that they had previously funded Stannis Baratheon and were nowhere to be found when it looked like their "investment" had gone south.
Daenerys Targaryen
From: Dragonstone
Full Name: Queen Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, Lady of Dragonstone, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.
Personality traits: Loyal, brave, strong, feminist, might be a little mad
Throughout the seasons Daenerys is shown slowly yet surely building her army of extremely loyal fighters. Yet, in Season 8, after the Battle of Winterfell and Euron's ambush, it seems as though the Throne is slipping through her fingers. However, it might not be the case.
The Dothraki
The first time the legendary horsemen were mentioned and introduced were in Season 1 Episode 1. When Daenerys was to wed their leader Draco. After many seasons and hardships, the Dothraki chose to support and follow their queen. After the Battle of Winterfell, reports of the number of Dothraki deaths were inconclusive but taken into account that a good chunk of the 100,000 who sailed to Westeros with Daenerys were lost in the battle against the army of the undead. (White Walkers) In theory, we should not underestimate how the remaining Dothraki's will be against human opponents.
The North and The Knights of the Vale
At the moment the North is weak, yet there are Northern armies marching towards Kings Landing. After a victorious yet, a devastating win against the undead, it is notable that the remaining forces have been noticeably reduced. In comes the Knights of the Vale. If you recall, the Knights rode in the last moment of all hope to save and help Jon Snow and reclaim Winterfell in the Battle of the Bastards. Brought by none other than Petyr Baelish (Little Finger). Now that Baelish is gone, The Knights are commanded by Bronze Yonn Royce, (the man Sansa is seen talking to through Season 8). Leading everyone down to Kings Landing are Jon Snow and Ser Daros Seaworth.
Vary and Tyrion
Daenerys's "trusted" advisors. Now that the battle for the "Iron Throne" has commenced again, their wits and clever tactics are as important as they seem.
Drogon (The Remaining Child)
The largest and remaining of Daenerys's "children" Drogon is the largest of the three dragons. Some can speculate that his size might be due to the time where his brothers were put away in a cave while he was nowhere to be found. This could have given him the freedom to eat and grow as they are meant to. Nonetheless, Drogon is noticeably larger and therefore might not be as easy to "take down" like his brothers. (Evidence of this could be when seen in Season 7 Episode 4 when Drogon was hit and was still able to fight).
The Unsullied
- Reminder: Daenerys freed the Unsullied slaves and asked if they would fight for/with her. She did not demand them to follow her, they choose her.
The Unsullied are known to be one of the most effective fighting forces in Westeros or Essos. According to Grey Worm (Their Commander), 4,000 Unsullied soldiers remain. However, it is important to note that this large disadvantage won't be an issue. It was once said that 3,000 Unsullied once held off 20,000 Dothraki's ("Eighteen times the horselords charged. And eighteen times the Unsullied locked their shields, lowed their spears, and held the line against twenty thousand Dothraki screamers."
―Ser Jorah Mormont) and the fact that they held their defensive line in the Battle of Winterfell without breaking formation.
Dorne: The "New" Prince of Dorne
Dorne is the location in which Cersei had sent her daughter to be saved. While things escalated between the families and other things, she was killed by Ellaria and the 'Sand Snakes'. In the latest episode, it was said that the "New" Prince of Dorne had pledged his allegiance to Daenerys. The question is, does he have the forces she may need.
Yara Greyjoy and the Iron Islands
Yara Greyjoy returned back to reclaim the Iron Islands from Euron in case Daenerys needed to retreat. With Euron with the Iron Fleet, Yara may not have many ships but might have enough.
Arya Stark and The Hound
Both have unfinished business they need to attend to at Kings Landing. Arya Stark with completing her list; Cersei, The Mountain, and Ser Llyn Payne. While The Hound is interested in his brother The Mountain. It's reasonable to assume the two are fighting against Cersei.
Still the be determined…
Throughout the seasons, it seems that two characters could play a large role on either side. Ser Bronn of Blackwater and Ser Jamie Lannister…
Bronn (Depends how much $$)
Currently, Bronn was summoned by Cersei to assassinate her brother/ the queen. Unknowingness to Cersei, Bronn can easily be bought. Rising from a sellsword to Ser Bronn of Blackwater, he has also ironically served each Lannister sibling in some way. The only question remains… who will be offering him the best price?
Ser Jamie Lannister (The King Slayer)
He left Kings Landing and Cersei AND their unborn child to fight in with the North against the undead (aka the wight walkers). However, since we last saw Jamie, he was riding back to Kings Landing. It seems as though he is returning to be by Cersei's side but speculations are still in the air.
In comparison, Cersei's army seems more equipped and stronger than Daenerys…
