It might be strange to think about, but there was a time when online oversharing was frowned upon. Long before we normalized telling our wildest stories on TikTok, Whisper was here to give us an outlet for everything typically seen as unacceptable to share on social media.
Launched in 2012, the idea of Whisper was to be a kind of anti-Facebook where users could anonymously confess whatever they wanted in the form of an image macro. While many of its posts are predictable guilty secrets, some take the style in very unexpected directions.
