Great Emperors like Augustus, Vespasian, and Claudius may have thought their legacy lived in marble and concrete, in the form of their amphitheaters and temples. But it's possible that, two thousand years later, their legacy lives in the hearts and memes of men (and others) around the world. Over the past weeks, women on the internet have learned that their men think about the Roman Empire a lot, after asking them, "How often do you think about the Roman Empire?"

Men from all walks of life find their minds full of the ancient glory, SPQR, aqueducts, Virgil's Aeneid, very straight roads. Whether it's the intricacies of the Latin language (which has no direct way of saying yes or no) or the military exploits of the legions at the Empire's furthest reaches, the Romans are a subject that looms large in the inner life of males. But there are plenty of women who love Rome too, and not all men are equally obsessed with it. But it's safe to say for the past week, most of the population has been thinking about the Roman Empire, or else thinking about how everyone else is thinking about the Roman Empire.
