One of Reddit's strangest communities is /r/trippinthroughtime, mostly because no one seems to know how they got there, and yet there are over four million members. It's full of a very specific kind of meme in which old paintings are virtually ripped to shreds in the name of humor. And surprisingly, they work.
These classical art memes are funny, dark and oddly relatable. Most of us wouldn't expect that a picture someone painted in the Renaissance could have such a relevance to our own lives in 2022, but thanks to some skilled meme makers, we've found a whole new meaning for these works our generation otherwise would have forgotten about entirely. So even though the artists would hate us for this, we can enjoy these 15 memes a lot more than we ethically should.
