Lying online is not an uncommon thing. A lot of people do it for a multitude of different reasons, just like lying in real life. On the internet the main reason it seems people lie is for some popularity and clout. People come up with insane, unbelievable stories in order to get people to read them and react with shock. A lot of the times the lies are just so bad though that it doesn't really catch on, and the whole thing backfires, whether it's a story of someone's child being a prodigy, someone being a better person than anyone else, or some other wacky scenario that definitely didn't happen.

In the end, all of these people get called out, so it's probably better to just not lie at all. Reddit's /r/thatHappened is the subreddit to share all of the cringeworthy, definitely fake stories people share for attention online. Some of them are just plain ridiculous, and it's sad if they aren't jokes. Here are 14 stories that definitely did not happen.
