We’re used to seeing flags as these gallant (perhaps star-spangled) banners waving in the wind. Carried at the front of an advancing army, hoisted to the top of a tall ship’s mast, saluted at a baseball game. But flags are just rectangles with colors or animals on them at the end of the day (well, most of them are rectangles. A few are triangles or squares, but that’s kind of in the weeds now, isn’t it?). There’s something funny about so much meaning adhering to a symbol that in some sense is quite arbitrary, and the flag nerds at Reddit's /r/vexillologycirclejerk understand this. The subreddit began as a way to post memes and make fun of other posters who are really into flags, but it’s evolved into something much bigger than that. Here are ten examples of quality flag humor.
